Many years ago God showed me a picture in my head. I want to share that with you....
I was hanging out with friends one evening and my roommate had decided on a drastic haircut. I had made some comments that offended her. It was not my intention to offend, but I was a young smart mouth that sometimes did not think before she spoke. We reconciled and prayed together. That is when God gave me a picture in my head: a ripe peach with a hand underneath.
This was very significant for me. As a kid, we had a peach tree growing right at our back door steps. When they were in season, we would pick them and within just a few hours have homemade ice cream. If I wanted a snack, I could just step outside and pick one and eat it right off the tree.
Now, you must note there is a big difference in the peaches that you purchase at the super market and those that ripen on the tree. A peach when fully ripe will fall right into your hand when you touch it. It is soft, sweet and juicy when you bite it. The smell is a sweet and delightful aroma. You can't wait to sink your teeth into it and when you do, the juice runs down your arm. Now some may not grasp the joy of this process, but for me it was the embodiment of summertime joy.
At the time of this picture in my mind, I had no idea what it meant. I prayed for God to give me good fruit in the relationship with this person. I went home though and sought the Lord for what the meaning was of this picture.
So here it is, I am to be so ripe from his presence that at the nudge of his hand I can be the aroma of Christ to those around me.
"2Co 2:15-16
(15) For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,
(16) to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?"
My life is to be a living sacrifice, ready to be used by God at his gentle nudge. Ripened in the presence of the son. Grown by the immersion in the word that fertilizes the crop. Are you being a peach? Daily in his word and the presence of Jesus? Prepared to be nudged by His hand? Sometimes I am, sometimes I am not, but I do strive to be more available to Him.
